The need for our work continues to grow
Our Breakfast and Learn morning in February 2026, in partnership with L&Q
In just two years, Tutors United families who report that we are the only academic support they access outside of school has increased by 82%.
Back in 2023-24, we surveyed parents and carers from our programmes to better understand how the cost of living crisis was affecting their families and the academic support available to them.
During that time of increased economic pressure, 39% of 2023-24 respondents reported that Tutors United was the only academic support they accessed outside of school.
This year, that number has shot up to 71% – meaning for more than two-thirds of our 2025-26 families, Tutors United is the only academic support they are accessing outside of school – underlining the even greater need for free, accessible, community-based tuition.
Tutors United families who report that we are the only academic support they access outside of school has increased by 82% in just two years.
It’s not just access to educational services and resources that are worsening. According to Department for Education data, the Disadvantage Gap Index for Key Stage 2 increased in the 2024-25 academic year, with only 47% of ‘disadvantage status pupils’ meeting reading, writing and maths (combined) standards by the time they leave primary school.
With continued instability for our pupils and their families, the Tutors United team and tutor cohort are working to keep our programmes accessible and to extend our support in new ways.
During the recent Easter Holidays, we sent our families Maths Activity Packs for Year 5 and Year 6 pupils, keeping what our kids have been learning in their Tutors United lessons and at school front-of-mind during their well-earned time off.
And back in February, in partnership with L&Q, we ran a Breakfast and Learn morning with pupils and their families, exploring topics in Maths and English that our primary school pupils find tricky, with the goal of bridging the gap between school and home for the whole family.
