We're Tutors United, a charity on a mission to end the attainment and employability gap through the power of community-based tutoring. We support young people to thrive at two key transition points – from primary to secondary school, and from university to employment.

We provide free tutoring to communities that need it most

Funded and co-delivered by forward-thinking housing associations, local, and corporate partners, we provide community-based tutoring programmes across London, the Midlands, and the North West to primary school children from low-income, migrant and refugee backgrounds, at no cost to families – opening up access to vital educational support to those who need it most.

We hire, train, and pay diverse university students – most of whom also come from low-income households – as tutors, providing them with meaningful, paid work experience, underpinned by academic and professional development.

Our approach

Hire, train and pay university students as tutors to deliver our programme

Specially-devised Maths and English lessons for primary school pupils

Engagement with parents and carers to encourage learning at home

Training and development for tutors to boost their skills and careers

About Tutors United

12 years of tutoring

From our first five pilot programmes in Hackney and Islington back in 2013-14, we’ve grown over the past decade to consistently deliver over 60 hubs in each of the last three academic years, adapting to offer both online and in-person tuition, and reaching diverse, low-income communities right across London and beyond. We’re proud of the direct and long-term impact of our programmes.

What we do

At Clarion Futures we feel proud to be able to work with such a wonderful and empowering partner as Tutors United. The work they are doing with children in our local communities is truly amazing. We have been able to see the confidence in the Clarion Cohort grow as the sessions have progressed.

Tutors United are such a joy to work with. They are always full of positive energy and are able to offer solutions to any challenges that arise.

Clarion Futures Communities

This organisation is the only one I have worked at that genuinely puts the development of their employees at the top of their priorities, both as tutors and as university students seeking to develop skills that will allow them to gain employment after university!

TU has helped me develop professionally as I have been given several internships and work experience opportunities to build my portfolio of corporate skills and experience.

Nefo
Tutor

My tutor was very kind, helpful, and friendly. She made the hardest things easy with her explanation. I really enjoyed learning with her. She was a super star.

Sarrinah
Pupil

TU has helped my daughter with everything. I saw a big difference in her communication skills and she seemed more confident in herself. She had a huge improvement in her core subjects; her SATs results were amazing.
